I am very excited to announce that I have the great pleasure to work with the very talented E. Van Lowe, author of "Never Slow Dance With A Zombie"! A couple of weeks ago, Mr. Van Lowe contact me to see if I was interested in helping him with a Twitter contest to help promote the launch of his new book "Never Slow Dance With A Zombie". How could I refuse? I absolutely LOVE this book! (Ok.. I was jumping up and down but that's just between US)... Anyway, This is really a Fantastic and Fun Idea. I know that so many of my reader's tweet daily and this is an easy way to win something we all love - BOOKS! If you don't have a twitter account, and would like to play, you can easily set one up by clicking this Twitter Link!  Are you ready to play and want to know the rules? Well then, read on!

The Never Slow Dance With A Zombie Twitter Contest Sponsored by E. Van Lowe

Contest

The contest runs from October 2nd to October 7th. It’s easy to enter; just tweet or retweet a sentence using the book title, Never Slow Dance With A Zombie. That’s it! Your tweet can be as simple as: I will Never Slow Dance With A Zombie. Ever! Or creative like: Bela may slow dance with Edward, but I will Never Slow Dance With A Zombie.

What could be easier? Each time you tweet or retweet the title in one day you increase your chances of winning for that day. There will be a new prize winner everyday for the six days of the contest. Our only restriction is that no one player can win two days in a row.

A random drawing will be held after midnight each day. Winners will be notified by direct message via Twitter. A new contest begins at 12:01 (EST) the following day. And like I said, the more tweets you send in one day, the more chances you have to win. Please note that in order for me to direct message you, your twitter account must be public. What can you win for tweeting this wonderful title? I'm glad you asked!

Prizes

Each day our winner gets their choice of one of six YA zombie book titles. Included in the mix is an autographed copy of E. Van Lowe’s Never Slow Dance With A Zombie. And if you win on day three, and want the same book chosen on day two. No problem. Winners can choose from any of the six books on the list. No restrictions.

There will be a new winner chosen every day from the 2nd to the 7th. Entries are good for one day, and one day only. The key to winning is to enter often.

Grand Prize

On October 8th we will award one grand prize chosen from all the tweets sent over the six days. The grand prize will be an Amazon certificate for $54.50, which just happens to be the cover price of the six books added together! All prizes will be mailed within two weeks of the contest. Prizes not claimed within two weeks will be forfeited.

Please join in the fun. Seven chances to win seven prizes over seven days. And all you have to do to win is tweet. You know you love tweeting. It’s time you made it pay!

Harry Potter Boxed Set 1-7 Giveaway! Celebrate Banned Books Week!

I will do anything to help celebrate MY freedom to read! That means whatever *I* choose! You would be amazed at just how many books are either banned and/or challenged! When I began research for Banned Books Week, I was astonished! I can't express just how important it is to celebrate the freedom to read what you (as an individual) choose! I wish there wasn't a need to even have this week. But, because there is, just like any other topic of importance, knowledge is basically the key.

So what is Banned Books Week?

According to the ALA - Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.

There is also a great page on the same ALA site that tells a little bit about the difference between "banned" and "challenged" books. Here's what they have to say.

A challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or group. A banning is the removal of those materials. Challenges do not simply involve a person expressing a point of view; rather, they are an attempt to remove material from the curriculum or library, thereby restricting the access of others. Due to the commitment of librarians, teachers, parents, students and other concerned citizens, most challenges are unsuccessful and most materials are retained in the school curriculum or library collection.

This is barely touching on the surface of Banned Books and why we need this very special week! I would like to post more links during the week to keep you updated! For now take a look at the LIST of Classics that are either challenged and/or banned! Sad, isn't it? A list of more recent books can be found HERE. This is where MY GIVEAWAY comes in!!

J.K Rowling's much LOVED Harry Potter Series has been challegened for it's use of witchcraft, sorcery and dealings with the occult. On the other side of the coin, it's also one of the fastest selling, most anticipated and loved series available for both children and adults alike!

Saturday Spotlight

These weeks just seem to be flying by!  It's already the end of September and the very first day of BANNED BOOKS WEEK! (Which I will be celebrating in a BIG Way) While I wish there wasn't a need for this week, I fully enjoy participating and showing my love for books banned or not!  I hope you'll each do something special for this very important week!

I'm going to put BBW on hold for just a moment to introduce this weeks SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT. Who do I have for you this week? Read on and find out!

Will you PLEASE state your name "Just for the Record"?  Reggie

Your Online Alias?  ReggieWrites

Reggie, What did you Name Your Blog?  The Undercover Book Lover (Not Really)

And Where Can We Find "The Undercover Book Lover (Not Really) Online? *Pssst...We need the URL..*     http://theundercoverbooklover.blogspot.com

Go ahead...Go Look! It's a really great blog. Promise, I'll wait! (*Crosses Fingers Behind Her Back*)

Can you give us a quick bio about yourself?
Well, as many people know, I LOVE to read. Reading is basically my life. I also love to write and debate. I'm currently writing a novel titled "Maybe It's Fate". What not many people know about me is that I can do a split. It's one of my random talents. haha!

You're Right Reggie! I had NO idea! I'm totally picturing it and I now see you in a WHOLE different Light! (*giggles*)

Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog at the beginning of July 2009. So I'm still pretty new! Blogging opens up a completely different way for hunting for books. I LOVE it!

I have to agree fully! Another thing that you'll all agree with is that while Reggie's blog is NEW, it's a great addition to the book blogging community and there are some wonderful reviews to be found over at "The Undercover Book Lover (Not Really)".

What is your favorite genre and/or genres?
My favorite genres are YA and Adult fiction (not erotica). I love authors like Lisa Schroeder, Tom Clancy, and John Grisham.

Who is your favorite author?
Currently, my favorite author is Lisa Schroeder...but it changes almost every week because there are so many talented authors out there.

What's your favorite book of all time?
I hate this question...haha. Because I can only pick one. But today, I would have to say my favorite book is I Heart You, You Haunt Me. This book is so touching and poignant.

Name & describe your blog features:
Currently, since I'm pretty new, my blog features are:
Secret Agent Uncovered: Author Interviews - this is where I interview authors every week.

Blogger Undercover - this feature is solely focused on helping out bloggers by exposing their blogs more. I love helping fellow book lovers!

The Weekly Pen - this is where I post a few poems, short stories, or articles written by me.

Post-its - this is my favorite feature! I post up quotes from books that make me smile or that are noteworthy.

Right now, these are my only features. But soon (in the next few weeks), I'm going to be adding contests, and IMMs to my features.

I LOVE the current features and I'll be looking for your new additions!

Describe your review system:
This is the most difficult question. It gets a little bit complicated here. My review system is very complicated. Anyway here it goes:

Originality: /10
Ending: /10
Characters: /10
Plot: /10
My reaction/enjoyment: /10
Theme: /10
Imagery: /10
Setting: /5
Voice: /5
Style: /5
Tone: /5
Cover: /10
Total Score: /100

A+ = 95-100
A- = 90-94
A- = 85-89
B+ = 80-84
B = 75-79
B- = 70-74
C+ = 65-69
C = 60-64
C- = 55-59
D+ = 50-54
D = 45-49
D- = 40-44

I'm not going to add an 'F' to the list because no author ever deserves an 'F'.

As you can see, it's kind of a grading format so that people are able to know which books they might like, based on their preferences. For instance, if characters are more important to a reader than the plot, they can pick a book with the highest character rating.

How is your blog unique from other blogs?
My blog is unique because of the feature titles and the review system. I don't wanna copy other blogger's titles for their features, so I make up my own. It has to be related with my blog name: The Undercover Book Lover (Not Really).
As for the review system, I've never seen a more complicated one than mine...hehe

I LOVE that you make up your own ideas! When I first Started Park-Avenue Princess here on Blogger almost two years ago, I wanted everything to be centered around my title as well. I try to keep it the same to this day. (ie... Royal Reviews, My Rating Scale with Tiaras, and the photos that I use) So, I fully understand and can appreciate ALL of your hard work!

How about sharing a few marketing ideas?
Asking fellow bloggers for help is a good technique. Everyone is extremely nice...Like Amy over here! Thanks Amy!

You're MORE than Welcome Reggie! Anytime... *smiles*

Can you give us 3 tips about content?
1. Be an honest reviewer. Say what's on your mind. Just because other reviewers think it's a good book, doesn't mean you have to also!
2. Have FUN! If you don't like blogging, then don't start a blog. You have to enjoy it in order to do well consistently.
3. Have substance in your reviews. Reviews without substance are not so nice. It's less helpful to other readers.

THREE Tips to Live By!

Can you give us 3 tips about blog promotion?
1. Don't be afraid to contact other bloggers...some of them are sure to help!
2. Comment! Commenting not only helps your blog, but other bloggers out there always welcome comments!
3. Author Interviews. Try contacting different authors...ask them for reviews to post on your blog. Some of them will surely oblige!

Thank You Reggie! It's been a PLEASURE having you here at Park-Avenue Princess! Enjoy the Spotlight! You Deserve it!

I've got WINNERS coming up!!

A Charming Giveaway

Yes...Just Like My Prince, This Giveaway IS Charming!

I wouldn't be a girlie girl if I didn't LOVE jewelry! I LOVE jewelry MORE than I could ever express. There's just something about it. It sparkles, it's gorgeous, it dresses an outfit up or down and most importantly it makes me feel gorgeous!

So how could I turn down the chance to review an absolutely beautiful Charm Bracelet from Charm Factory? Here's a hint... I COULDN'T! Where do YOU come in? Well...ONE lucky Park-Avenue Princess Reader gets the VERY same! (Minus the review) You'll get to pick Eight (8) Sterling Silver Charms from the thousands of charms they have at Charm Factory which they'll put on a bracelt for you! I know what you're thinking, it's going to take weeks to get that custom bracelt. Right? WRONG! I got my bracelet in exactly THREE (3) Days and it was EXACTLY what I wanted!

Charm Factory doesn't just specialize in charms! They have MUCH more to offer such as rings, bracelets, beads and MORE! The charms are absolutely gorgeous and you can find a charm to represent just about ANYTHING! I was completely amazed at the selection. The customer service was second to none! Angie helped me with every step and answered any and all questions that I had.

Another great feature, Charm Factory ships for FREE! It doesn't matter WHAT you order! You can order a little or a lot, One item or One Hundred! It all ships free! What a wonderful heirloom! You can make a themed bracelet or something all your own that means something to just YOU! It's always nice to get even a small token when you hit a milestone, you want to show your love or keep something close that means the world to you and why not do that with a Charm? I think it's a fun idea! A few other interesting facts you should know woudl be that all the charms are lead free, .925 Sterling Silver, they have live online support, there's no minimum order, they also sell wholesale and everything is made right here in the United States!

So what charms did I put on my Sterling Silver Charm Bracelet? I wanted to pick ones that meant something to me over a pre-made themed bracelet and I chose A Ladies High Heel Shoe, A Purse, Princess Charm, Teapot (with a moveable lid), A Moveable Shell Charm (because June's birthstone is a pearl), The June Birthstone Heart, Crown and Scepter and A really cute Birthstone Ring!

I absolutely LOVE it!! Thank you CHARM FACTORY!!

The Secret Life Of Marilyn Monroe Review and Giveaway!

When I first saw this book, I knew I HAD to read it. Marilyn has always been someone that I've been interested in. She lead an exciting, glamourous and at times, very sad life. She's gorgeous, glamorous, sexy and is just one of those women that looks like she has "it all". There are SO many stories in the different chapters, her early childhood, teen years, how she came to be "Marilyn Monroe" and of course the Men!

Many stories fly about Marilyn and the "type" of life she lead. The jealousy, the flings, and her death, it seems to me that everyone has an opinion. But what draws me most to her is how she lived to be the entertainer that she was. I think the more dangerous a woman seems, the more enticing she is. I didn't want this book to end and to me, that's always a wonderful sign.

Here's a little bit about the book and how you can win one of three audio copies courtesy of Hachette Book Group for your own!

The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe

Class: Memoir
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Format of Giveaway: Audio Book (3)

About the Book:

From New York Times bestselling author J. Randy Taraborrelli comes the definitive biography of the most enduring icon in popular American culture.
When Marilyn Monroe became famous in the 1950s, the world was told that her mother was either dead or simply not a part of her life. However, that was not true. In fact, her mentally ill mother was very much present in Marilyn's world and the complex family dynamic that unfolded behind the scenes is a story that has never before been told...until now. In this groundbreaking book, Taraborrelli draws complex and sympathetic portraits of the women so influential in the actress' life, including her mother, her foster mother, and her legal guardian. He also reveals, for the first time, the shocking scope of Marilyn's own mental illness, the identity of Marilyn's father and the half-brother she never knew, and new information about her relationship with the Kennedy's-Bobby, Jack, and Pat Kennedy Lawford. Explosive, revelatory, and surprisingly moving, this is the final word on the life of one of the most fascinating and elusive icons of the 20th Century.
