Without further Ado, Mr. Ed Williams...

“Le Poem De La Sweat"

I made a bad mistake a couple of weeks ago and got into a discussion about poetry with my good friend, columnist Amy Eason. Amy likes poems, and was telling me all kinds of stuff about them in an effort to convince me that I should like them as well. She was fighting an uphill battle because I typically don’t like poetry at all, in fact, the only thing I can imagine that’s worse than poems would be having Perry Como sing a few of them to me. Nonetheless, she made me promise that I would try to write one, and, that if I did, I’d come to understand just how rewarding composing them can be. Based on her powers of persuasion, and the added incentive of a twenty dollar side bet, I’m going to unveil my first, and I guarantee you, my absolutely last poetic offering. This tender epistle goes as follows:

Le Poem De La Sweat
I sit here at my keyboard fair,
Sweat beads streaking through my hair,
I just got home from working out at the gym,
In a very vain effort to get fit and trim.

I wonder why it has to be this way,
Joints a-hurtin’ and old legs that sway,
I’m breathing so hard, it’s like a monsoon,
I’m sure I could inflate a hot air balloon.

As I worked out, I looked all around,
Amazed at the different type people I found,
I cussed the skinny people who don’t break a sweat,
The more they eat, the thinner they get.
It doesn’t seem right, yet what can I do,
They’re still real skinny, but my stomach’s all goo.

And there’s a big guy, who’s puffing like me,
His sweatpants are too small, his gut I can see,
When he bends over to pick up some weights,
I think of full moons, the association I hate.

To my right is a lady, she works hard and tries,
No weight in her chest, but lots in her thighs,
She’s standing there eyeing the sit-up bench,
If she lays down on it, we may need a wench.

Right straight ahead is a real foxy mama,
Her tan lines remind me of the Bahamas,
Her work-out outfits couldn’t be more tiny,
If she makes a quick move, I might glimpse her heiny.

As for me, I’m on a Stairmaster,
A pretty good recipe for an impending disaster,
My legs are feeling like concrete poles,
If my brain were x-rayed, it’d be full of holes.

One minute goes by, then two, then three,
The water gods are all calling out to me,
My chest feels tight, my eyes feel glazed,
If I don’t throw up, I’ll be mega amazed.

Finally, I finish, and I can go home,
And sit my butt down, to finish this poem,
Amy, my dear, I enjoyed this plenty,
Now break out your purse and slip me that twenty.

Well, hmmmm. You know, I’ve gotta be honest here, Amy may be right. Poetry does bring out a tender, compassionate side within me that I never knew I had. To be totally truthful, I really struggled hard from an emotional standpoint while writing this poem, in fact, tears almost came to my eyes several times, but, I fought them off in order to do my literary duty. I guess I’ve sort of become a true Renaissance man, scripting out tender verses like these. It makes me feel pretty good inside, to tell you the truth. I would go further, and maybe get into some pretty heavy dialogue about philosophy or religion, but I can’t right now. I happen to be writing this on a Monday night, and RAW is WAR is about to come on. And, as we all know, even a true Renaissance man like me can’t miss out on seeing Triple H in action...

Thank you for being here Ed! It wouldn't be a Monday without you!!
If you like Ed, let him know! Leave a comment and I KNOW he'll get back to you! Enjoy the next six weeks and let me know..."Can we keep him? Can we? Can we .... Please...!"

Saturday Spotlight & Generous Giveaway!

Hello Lords and Ladies! Today I have another wonderful blogger for you to meet! She was one of the very first bloggers I met when I began blogging! Let's Welcome Our Saturday Spotlight Blogger...

**Thunderous Applause**

Oh Mystery Blogger Let's start off with something easy...

What's Your Name? Cheryl Koch

Do You Have an *Alias*? No

What's Your Blog name? Cheryl's Book Nook

And What's the URL? http://www.cherylsbooknook.blogspot.com/

We ALL want to be able to find you!!

Tell Us A *Little* Bit about yourself? You know, a short Bio...

Well, I am married, no children but I have one dog, two cats and a tank full of fish. I love to read, do cross stitching and my favorite tv shows to watch are The Tudors, Project Runway, Top Chef, and Hell's Kitchen.

Why did you start your blog? To be honest, I started one because blogging was a popular thing but when I started it I had no plans as to what I was going to use my blog for. Due to my love of books, I decided to post my thoughts about them and thought other people might enjoy my recommendations.

(And you were right!!) *smile*

Back to the Interview...What is your favorite genre and/or genres?
My Favorite genre has to be suspense/thriller, but I read just about any genre.

Who is your favorite author? No particular favorite but some of my favorite authors are Cody McFadyen, Kevin O'Brien, Brian Freeman, Lisa Jackson, Beverly Barton, Karen Rose, and Tess Gerristen to name a few.

What's your favorite book of all time? I don't really have a favorite but I do remember some that really got my interested in reading are The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Most people would probably be surprised to see these books named as I have just gotten back into the non ficition genre.

Please Name & describe your blog features: Cheryl's Book Nook. I post reviews of books you should know about, author interviews, guest posts, and of course giveaways.

Describe your review system: Well my review system may be different than most are used to. I mean, this because if people are looking for a scoring system, I don't use one. I just write my thoughts on the book and don't assign any stars. I beleive my thoughts are my own and I don't want to discourage anyone for not reading something. I want my readers to make up their own minds based on my reviews. Though I do assign stars on other sites where I post my reviews like Shelfari, Goodreads and Amazon.

How is your blog unique from other blogs? This is a tough question. To be honest, I don't know how mine is unique from others. Everytime I visit other blogs, I think wow I should do that! But then, I have gotten so many great comments from authors that they like my blog because it is simple and not clustered. Maybe that is how I am unique in the fact that I keep things simple.

How do you market your blog? I try to feature it on many different sites like Shelfari, Goodreads, Book Blogs, join a lot of book blog tours, comment on other bloggers sites and swap links.

Can you give us 3 tips about content? Keep things simple, short and to the point.
Try and make the postings interactive, and Just have fun with your postings.

What are your 3 Major Tips for Blog Promotion? Join book blog tours, Be friendly with other bloggers, and comment on their sites! Join sites that focus on what your blog is about and make friends.

Some of the nicest and coolest people I have met, I met through blogging. One of those people is Amy from Park-Avenue Princess (No she did not pay me to say this)!

*Gets caught putting away money* .... What? I ... Um, needed something out of my purse...mmmhmmm *AHEM* Cheryl, should we tell them about the GIVEAWAY?

Cheryl: "Of course WE should tell them about the GIVEAWAY!"

OK...Well, now that you all know a little bit more about Cheryl and her "Book Nook" ... (Not to be confused with Nookie. Although, you MIGHT think about nookie when you see some of the covers of the books that Cheryl is sometimes reading! I stop by for drool factor alone! *wipes drool* KIDDING! Princesses DO NOT DROOL! DUH!

Here's the Exciting News! 5 Copies of "Tall, Dark & Fangsome" by Michelle Rowen are up for grabs! One copy per Winner! (That's 5 Winners in all) - (I know..DUH)

Year Of The Cock Review & Giveaway!!

Year of the Cock
By: Alan Wieder
Publisher: Grand Central
Available: July 22, 2009
Pages: 320

Can't wait? Buy it!

My Rating: Photobucket

About the Book:

The year of the Cock: The Remarkable True Account of A Married Man Who Left His Wife and Paid the Price By: Alan Wieder

From a powerful new voice in nonfiction comes this electrifying chronicle of a married man who leaves his wife to pursue a carefree bachelorhood - only to plunge into an abyss of shame, regret, and penis envy.

Thirty-year-old Alan Wieder has everything a man could possibly want: a nice home in L.A., a thriving Hollywood career, and to top it all off, a beautiful and adoring wife. Then one day in 2005 - the Year of the Rooster - he wakes up with questions: Have I settled down too soon? Am I consigned to a humdrum future of marriage, kiddies, home-cooked meals and hybrid SUVs? How the %&! did this happen to me?

And just like that - after ten years in a committed relationship - Alan decides to walk out on his wife to pursue his fantasy of becoming a hardcore bachelor. Explaining very little, thinking even less, he dives into his exhilarating new single existence - buying a vintage Porsche, moving into a tastefully decorated bachelor pad, ignoring his wife, and bedding as many chicks as possible. However, to Alan's surprise and dismay, becoming a single dude also unleashes in him a torrent of crippling insecurities that he didn't even know he had. And soon, his would-be swingin' bachelorhood is cut short - very short - by a strange and shameful obsession that drives him to utter madness.

Some men leave their wives only to discover that the grass isn't greener. What Alan Wieder discovers - about the perils of newfound freedom, and about his own fragile male psyche - is far more agonizing and wretched. In this riveting and brutally honest memoir, Alan recounts the true story of his impulsive, wild, and ultimately disastrous foray into bachelorhood. A tragicomic tale of betrayal, sexual (mis)adventure, and ultimately redemption, Year of the Cock marks the debut of a remarkably talented new writer.

My Thoughts:

I never expected to LOVE this book. I wanted to hate it and hate it big time. All I could think about was my girlfriends and I sitting around talking and finding out that this one's boyfriend/husband cheated on this one. And so-and-so's husband wants a divorce because he's got a younger woman with a hot body...and then all the man - bashing that goes along with it.

Ever wonder WHY they do what they do? Honestly? Not the "What men want you to think" answer? Well here it is in all it's memoir glory! Alan writes this book with wit and a sharp tongue. The one-of-a-kind new and fresh voice that comes from this author stings with honesty! I couldn't stop reading and I actually took it with me for a couple of days everywhere I went.

As a woman, there were parts of this that were definitely hard to read and others that were just so funny I had to laugh out loud. I applaud Mr. Wieder for his honesty and ability to admit his faults. This memoir was as real as it gets!

Ladies...if you've ever known a cock (or two - dle doo .... sorry) and I'm not taking about the Chinese Zodiac...OK? And were left with some unanswered questions, then this is the book for you. Oh, and guys...I'm sure you'll have a few of those "I can relate" moments or maybe even be a little ticked off that he broke what I call "The Man Code" by telling all...I guarantee you'll still enjoy this book!

Alan Wieider does NOT disappoint in this Not to be missed, in your face memoir of the year!

**OK Ladies here's the scoop...you'll either LOVE this on or you'll HATE it. I believe there is NO in between with this one. Remember that this was written from an honest foul-mouthed man. And, I mean what I say when I say "Fowl" mouthed (LOL Another joke...I really couldn't help it). Here's an example and a little bit about the author, right from his own site!

Alanology Go ahead and "click" it...I'll wait! Wow! Back already? : ) See what I mean?

Here's another example...just to give you fair warning. This is a chance to win his book by September 31st if you don't want to sign up to win it here. But he wants you to do um....a little "project" to win it. Go HERE to find out what that would be.

The book has a writing style all it's own and is very enjoyable. (I thought anyway...) But, I did want to give my more "Conservative Gals" a fair warning! And IF Penis Haiku's aren't in your near future...you can win it right here and I'm going to tell you how!!

The Lost Dog By Michelle de Kretser GIVEAWAY!!

The Lost Dog
Michelle de Kretser
Publisher: Back Bay Books (reprint)
Trade Paper Edition
Available: August 13, 2009
Pages: 352

Book Information:

Tom Loxley, an Indian-Australian professor, is less concerned with finishing his book on Henry James than with finding his dog, who is lost in the Australian bush.

Joining his daily hunt is Nelly Zhang, an artist whose husband disappeared mysteriously years before Tom met her. Although Nelly helps him search for his beloved pet, Tom isn't sure if he should trust this new friend.

Tom has preoccupations other than his book and Nelly and his missing dog, mainly concerning his mother, who is suffering from the various indignities of old age. He is constantly drawn from the cerebral to the primitive--by his mother's infirmities, as well as by Nelly's attractions. THE LOST DOG makes brilliant use of the conventions of suspense and atmosphere while leading us to see anew the ever-present conflicts between our bodies and our minds, the present and the past, the primal and the civilized.

About Michelle de Kretser

Michelle de Kretser was born in Sri Lanka and emigrated to Australia when she was fourteen. She was educated in Melbourne and Paris and has worked as an editor and a book reviewer.

The Hamilton Case, her second novel, received the Commonwealth Writers Prize (SE Asia and Pacific region), and the Society of Authors’ (U.K.) Encore Award for best second novel of the year. It was also first runner-up for Barnes & Noble’s Discover Award in Fiction, and a New York Times Notable Book.

The Lost Dog is her third novel. It was a finalist for the Commonwealth Writers Prize and received the 2008 Christina Stead Prize for fiction.

The Blue Star by Tony Earley GIVEAWAY!!

The Blue Star
Tony Earley
Publisher - Back Bay Books
Available August 2009
Paperback (Reprint)
Pages - 336

About the Book:
Seven years ago, readers everywhere fell in love with Jim Glass, the precocious ten-year-old at the heart of Tony Earley's bestseller Jim the Boy. Now a teenager, Jim returns in another tender and wise story of young love on the eve of World War Two.

Jim Glass has fallen in love, as only a teenage boy can fall in love, with his classmate Chrissie Steppe. Unfortunately, Chrissie is Bucky Bucklaw's girlfriend, and Bucky has joined the Navy on the eve of war. Jim vows to win Chrissie's heart in his absence, but the war makes high school less than a safe haven, and gives a young man's emotions a grown man's gravity.

With the uncanny insight into the well-intentioned heart that made Jim the Boy a favorite novel for thousands of readers, Tony Earley has fashioned another nuanced and unforgettable portrait of America in another time--making it again even realer than our own day.

This is a timeless and moving story of discovery, loss and growing up, proving why Tony Earley's writing "radiates with a largeness of heart" (Esquire).

About Tony Earley

Tony Earley is the author of four books: Here We Are in Paradise, a collection of stories; the novel Jim the Boy; the personal essay collection Somehow Form a Family; and The Blue Star, a novel released in Spring, 2008. A winner of a National Magazine Award for fiction, he was named one of the twenty best writers of his generation by both Granta, in 1996, and The New Yorker in 1999. His fiction and/or nonfiction have appeared in Harper's, Esquire, The New Yorker, The Oxford American, The New York Times Book Review, Tin House, Best American Short Stories, New Stories from the South and many other magazines and anthologies.

He is a native of western North Carolina and a graduate of Warren Wilson College and The University of Alabama. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife and daughter, where he is the Samuel Milton Fleming Associate Professor of English at Vanderbilt University.

What's Geektastic ~ Definition

About this book:

Acclaimed authors Holly Black (Ironside) and Cecil Castellucci (Boy Proof) have united in geekdom to edit short stories from some of the best selling and most promising geeks in young adult literature: M.T. Anderson, Libba Bray, Cassandra Clare, Tracy Lynn, Cynthia and Greg Leitich Smith, David Levithan, Kelly Link, Barry Lyga, Wendy Mass, Garth Nix, Scott Westerfield, Lisa Yee, and Sara Zarr.

With illustrated interstitials from comic book artists Hope Larson and Bryan Lee O'Malley, Geektastic covers all things geeky, from Klingons and Jedi Knights to fan fiction, theater geeks, and cosplayers. Whether you're a former, current, or future geek, or if you just want to get in touch with your inner geek, Geektastic will help you get your geek on!

About the Cover:
(taken from web)

If you look closely at the cover of Geektastic: Stories from the Nerd Herd, edited by Holly Black and Cecil Castellucci (Little, Brown, Aug.), you’ll notice that many of the avatars look exactly like M.T. Anderson, Kelly Link, Scott Westerfeld and other well-known writers. No coincidence, since the 20-odd writers on display on the jacket all contributed stories to the collection.

Thoughts:

I've heard a whole lot about this fantastic book and was totally blown away when I finally got to read it! This anothology covers everything from Star Trek to Star Wars and all that is GEEK in between.

At the end of each of the 15 stories told by some of the best names in YA, you'll find their cartoon "geek" self drawn with the author's bio in a "Speach Bubble" coming out of their mouths. Really cute. Laugh out loud funny and more geekiness that one can handle, there's something in this anthology for everyone! Each story is also separated by a full page comic!

This book will satisfy the inner geek in all of us, no matter what the age!

About the Authors:

Holly Black is the bestselling author of The Spiderwick Chronicles and Tithe, Valiant, and Ironside. She lives in Masschusetts with her husband Theo.

Cecil Castellucci is the author of Boy Proof, Queen of Cool, Beige, and The Plain Janes. She is a writer, filmaker, actress, and singer-songwriter. She lives in Los Angeles.

How to be A Hepburn in A Hilton World Review & Giveaway

How To Be A Hepburn In A Hilton World
By: Jordan Christy
Publisher: Center Street
Available: August 13, 2009
Type: Hardcover
Pages: 208
Genre: YA Self-Help

My Rating: Photobucket

About the book:

How to Be a Hepburn in a Hilton World by Jordan Christy The Art of Living with Style, Class, and Grace.

This smart and sassy guide shows young women how to find their own glamorous style, professional success, and love with class and grace.

In a society driven by celebutante news and myspace.com profiles, women of class, style, and charm are hard to come by. But as thongs, rehab, and outrageous behavior burn up the daily headlines, employers still like to see a tailored suit, men still want women they can take home to their moms, and peers still respect professional conduct.

Christy helps women channel their inner Kate or Audrey, dusting off old-fashioned virtues and giving them a whole new spin in today’s sexed-up culture.

She shows how modern women can be beautiful, intelligent, and have it all — glamorous style, professional success, and true love and keep their values and morals intact along the way.

Thoughts:

Let's face it, in a world of short skirts, belly rings, g-strings and low-as-you-go jeans, there seems to be a lack of classic and classy role models for young women to look up to! Now, this is just my opinion, but when was the last time you saw Ms. Spears in a strand of pearls? A (very) little black dress...yes, the fore mentioned? A resounding "NO"!! Well not any more, thanks to author Jordan Christy. who passes along many positive qualities that should be instilled in today's young women!

When I first saw this book, I couldn't resist it. The cover and title alone will draw you in! Being the girlie girl that I am and Loving Classy Iconic women like Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Jackie O., there was simply no way I could pass on this self-help book like no other!

While it's aimed at a YA audience, it easily will appeal to women of all ages. The writing style is fun and free which makes it an easy read from cover to cover. I read it all in one sitting. Some of my favorite chapters included "Keep your Chin Up and Your Skirt Down" (which speaks in volumes itself)and "Let Him Come Calling" - a guide to dating of sorts. It reminded me of "The Rules" but for a new, younger generation.

This book basically takes a fluffy read and makes it into a serious lesson. Young women should be self-confident, strong and most of all to respectful of themselves. The last above all else. The resounding message that goes on throughout this book is as timeless, classy and unforgettable as Audrey herself. I couldn't put this book down.

About Author Jordan Christy:
Jordan Christy is a publicist for Warner Bros. Records and has worked with dozens of artists and celebrities, in addition to various TV and media outlets. She has also written for local and national fashion magazines and music trade publications. She currently lives in Nashville, TN with her husband Drew.

I love to write. That's pretty much all I do. Ask my family about the undone laundry, the unbought groceries, and the fact that I rarely find time to get dressed in the morning. Actually, if you train your family right, they won't notice any of these things. "Popcorn for dinner again, Mom! Cool," say my filthy children. God bless them, they don't know what panty hose are. Oh, my poor husband. What else is there to know about me? I love kids. I love cats. I love chocolate (not necessarily in that order). And I love to hear from readers. Sautday Spotlight! (And Giveaway)!

Today I'm trying out something new to me called "Saturday Spotlight". I'm pretty excited about it to be quite honest! The idea actually started with my guest blogger today. She's very kind and when I contacted her to see if she would mind if I did something similar, she wrote back immediately with a super-friendly email and a positive answer! So, how long with this run? Good Question! Each week, I'd like to host a different Blogger and depending just how many people I have interested, will depend on how long it runs!

If YOU would like to be featured in Saturday Spotlight, just hit the "contact" button and I will be more than happy to host you here, at Park-Avenue Princess!

Today's Blogger in "Saturday Spotlight" is Sophie from Mrs. Magoo Reads!

Name? Sophie
Your Blogger Alias? Mrs. Magoo
Name of Your Blog? Mrs. Magoo Reads

What's Your Blog URL? http://www.mrsmagooreads.com/

Can you give us a quick bio about yourself? I am a thirteen year old girl who has been blogging for almost two years (my blogoversary is on August 16!). I have loved to read for as long as I can remember, and now love blogging about it. Last year I was featured on TV for my blog.
Why did you start your blog? As the buzz about blogging got louder and louder around me, one day I thought it would just be cool to start a blog. After a bit of brainstorming, I decided to make my blog about something I love: books. Little did I know there was such a huge YA book blogging community!

What is your favorite genre and/or genres? I'm really not that picky about genres. I do, however, prefer realistic fiction over fantasy.

Who is your favorite author? Oh, I don't know if I can pick just one! JK Rowling, Stephenie Meyer (so sue me), and Scott Westerfeld.

What's your favorite book of all time? I think this pretty much corresponds with my favorite writers: Harry Potter, Twilight, and the Uglies.

Name and describe different features on your blog: Other than my reviews, I have Saturday's Scribe, where an author is either interviewed or writes a guest blog every Saturday. I also jumped onto Reviewer X's Retrospective meme, which comes every Sunday, where I link to every other post I made during the post. My most popular feature is Movie Monday. Every Monday I make a review video of a book I've reviewed, and it comes along with a contest to win that book! Last but not least, I profile other bloggers, and these often come with contests as well.

Do you use your own Review System? How is it Different? I start by listing the title and author, give it a grade, and name its "ideal audience", according to age and gender. Then I provide my own summary of the book, followed by my thoughts. I finish the review by providing links to buy the book through Amazon and/or IndieBound.

How is your blog unique from other blogs? I'd say Movie Monday is the most unique thing about my blog-- not a whole lot of other bloggers make review videos.

How do you market your blog? First, I make sure to have good content. I also do link exchanges and interview other bloggers (the links back actually generate a surprising amount of visitors!). My contests are also very popular and are a form of marketing themselves! :)

Can you give us 3 tips about content?

  • 1. Make sure your reviews are the right length. I'm not going to read a very long review, but an extremely short one will lose my respect.

  • 2. Add at least one unique element to your blog-- I want a reason to come back to yours rather than somebody else's.

  • 3. Don't use chat speak on your blog!

Can you give us 3 tips about blog promotion?

  • 1. Leave comments on other blogs. This is really hypocritical of me, as I hardly ever leave comments, but if anybody has any tips on fixing this bad habit, they'd be very welcome!

  • 2. Be friendly to other bloggers.

  • 3. Be patient. Nothing comes immediately.

Thanks so much for having me, Amy!!

You're More than Welcome Sophie! Come back anytime!

OK...I'm going to ask that you visit sophie and leave her a comment and you may also commet here!
THE GIVEAWAY!

Sophie has offered to do a free personalized "Header" for ONE Winner's blog. In order to win this, you must be a follower of both blogs! Want an 10 Extra Entries? Follow me on Twitter and Follow Sophie there as well (that's FIVE points for each follow) Just note it in the comments section! (Sophie wants me to note that she's not a PROFESSIONAL Graphics Designer...but does some pretty cool work and will help you to get the look you want)! Again, this is Sophie's contest. But, you MUST enter here and I will pick the Winner.

All enteries MUST be in by September 19th and WINNER drawn on Septmber 20th! *Note that I also have a contest to win a $20.00 Gift Card to the Bookstore of your choice on Mrs. Magoo Reads! Hurry, I think it ends on the 27th!

About "How It Ends"
(taken from Laura's Web Site)

All Hanna's wanted since sophomore year is Seth. She's gone out with other guys, even gained a rep for being a flirt, all the while hoping cool, guitar-playing Seth will choose her. Then she gets him – but their relationship is hurtful, stormy and critical, not at all what Hanna thinks a perfect love should be.

Bewildered by Seth's treatment of her and in need of understanding, Hanna decides to fulfill her school's community service requirement by spending time with Helen, her terminally ill neighbor, who she's turned to for comfort and wisdom throughout her life. But illness has changed Helen into someone Hanna hardly knows, and her home is not the refuge it once was.

Feeling more alone than ever, Hanna gets drawn into an audio book the older woman is listening to, a fierce, unsettling love story of passion, sacrifice and devotion. Hanna's fascinated by the idea that such all-encompassing love can truly exist, and without even realizing it, the story begins to change her.

Until the day when the story becomes all too real...and Hanna's world is spun off its axis by its shattering irrevocable conclusion.

My thoughts:

Hannah is the apple of her neighbor Helen's eye. From a very young age she practically brought her up. Helen is much more than a neighbor to Hannah, she's more like a beloved grandmother. And so the story is set. Hannah is your typical teenager. She's fun, full of spunk, energy and most of all, kindness. Of course at times, you can see Hannah's rebellious side and angst. And as Hannah gets older and grows older, you can see that she's still Helen's whole world. Unfortunately, Hannah makes Seth the focus of hers. Hannah's determined to make Seth her very own, and we as readers. get to enjoy the laugh out loud memories of growing up and being in "love" with a boy!

Also, as with most teenagers, their time for the adults in their life becomes less and less as they try to venture out more and more on their own. I couldn't help but cheer on Hannah as she did the things that made her smile and then cry with a broken -heart of my very own when she was sad or lost. It's at this point of the story that we learn that Helen has a dark past and a very deep secret that she's kept from Hannah. It's breaking her heart to watch Hannah grow up distanced and now somewhat 'apart' from her. But yet she understands that the cycle of life usually takes this turn. It becomes Helen's mission to make Hannah understand who she really is.

In the past when Hannah would ask about Helen's life, she would make up beautiful and brilliant stories about a wonderful well-adjusted life. These lies now eat at Helen and she's now determined to make it right. To document all the happenings of her past and let Hannah know the truth.

Author Laura Weiss created characters with such depth and realism that I literally forgot about everything else. I was suddenly lost in their world and needed to know all I could about each one. There were many times when I though I knew what was going to happen and to my surprise, it was not at all the way I thought it would be. Rich in emotion and dialogue, Weiss creates a story that will keep you thinking long after the book has ended. I'm still thinking about Hannah and Helen.

I laughed and I cried and then I cried some more. "How it Ends" would make the PERFECT book club read. There is so much to discuss. I would definitely not categorize this story as a 'light' or 'beach' read and it's just long enough to not make the story too taxing on the reader. You'll love "How It Ends" from page one to page 304.

I haven't read a story this beautifully told in a very long time. Heartwarming and Heartbreaking all inn one. This novel is about 'true' love, what it means and everything that comes along with it. I absolutely loved "How It Ends". Highly recommended!

Read Laura Weiss' Bio

That's all for now...Happy Reading!

About the Book:

CAUGHT BETWEEN DUTY AND DESIRE . . .

Sophie, the Duchess of Calton, has finally moved on. After seven years mourning the loss of her husband, Garrett, at Waterloo, she has married his cousin and heir, Tristan. Sophie gives herself to him body and soul. . . until the day Garrett returns from the Continent, demanding his title, his lands-and his wife.

TORN BETWEEN TWO HUSBANDS . . .

Now Sophie must choose between her first love and her new love, knowing that no matter what, her choice will destroy one of the men she adores. Will it be Garrett, her childhood sweetheart, whose loss nearly destroyed her once already? Or will it be Tristan, beloved friend turned lover, who supported her through the last, dark years and introduced her to a passion she had never known? As her two husbands battle for her heart, Sophie finds herself immersed in a dangerous game-where the stakes are not only love . . . but life and death.

The Author:

Jennifer Haymore

As a child, Jennifer Haymore traveled the South Pacific with her family on their homebuilt sailboat. The months spent on the sometimes-quiet, sometimes-raging seas sparked her love of adventure and grand romance. Since then, she's earned degrees in Computer Science and Education and held various jobs from bookselling to teaching inner-city children to acting, but she's never stopped writing.

You can find Jennifer in Southern California trying to talk her husband into yet another trip to England, helping her three children with homework while brainstorming a new five-minute dinner menu, or crouched in a corner of the local bookstore writing her next novel.

Dark Hunger Blog Tour & Giveaway

Dark Hunger
By: Rita Herron
Publisher: Forever
Release Date: August 1, 2009
Available in: Paperback, E-Book
Pages: 320

My Rating: Photobucket

I couldn't be more delighted to be participating in the Dark Hunger Blog Tour! This title is a brand-new release from author, Rita Herron (August 1, 2009). To celebrate we're going to giveaway FIVE copies courtesy of Anna and Hachette Book Group! I'll tell you a little more about how to win your very own copy at the end.

Synopsis:

HE'S EVERYTHING SHE FEARS...

Reporter Annabelle Armstrong will go to any lengths to deliver a story, even track down Quinton Valtrez, a man she believes is a coldhearted assassin. Yet the truth about the darkly sensual Quinton is even more shocking...and the overwhelming desire he ignites is one she vows to resist.

SHE'S EVERYTHING HE CRAVES...

Quinton has fought his demonic powers since he was a child. Now using his gifts for the good of national security, he can't let himself be distracted by the beautiful, determined Annabelle. But his need for her is sudden, fierce--and could soon cost Annabelle her life. For a wicked enemy is out for vengeance, a demon who wants to draw Quinton into a life of pure evil and is willing to use Annabelle as bait. To save her, Quinton must achieve the near impossible: tame the sinister force that is both his inheritance and his curse before it claims him forever.

My Thoughts:

Dark Hunger is an action-packed paranormal romance full of suspense! Suprisingly enough, Quinton never once comes across as a very dark character in the novel even though there is talk of his history and noticible warning signs.
Annabelle and Quinton try to fight the attraction they have, but it's hard to deny.

Sizzling, Sultry and Sexy...this novel does not disappoint. Ms. Herron had me wanting more until the very wee hours of the morning. I was up turning page after page unaware of time.

With their new found romance, Annabelle brings out a softer side to Quinton, one he was unaware of. Because of this, he begins to accept just who he is. I don't want to give away too much, but this is a must read for anyone that loves a good paranormal romance with a little spice! (OK..a lot!)

Just watch:

About the Author:

Rita Herron is an award-winning author of more than 30 romantic suspense novels for Harlequin and Dorchester. In 2007 alone, she was nominated for two Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Awards, including a Career Achievement Award.
